The Hambukushu Traditional Authority's spokesperson Ervin Disho has called for unity among followers of the tribal authority.

The call comes after Fumu Erwin Munika Mbambo won the case in the High Court, in which a concern group  challenged his chieftainship

Senior Headman Disho was speaking at Kangongo village in the Kavango East's Mukwe Constituency.

The Hambukushu Traditional Authority has been engulfed in a leadership crisis after a committee advocating for the dethroning of Fumu Mbambo in 2018 held a referendum for his removal from the throne.

The group accused Fumu Mbambo of several transgressions including corruption among others .

The  concerned group also claimed that the Hambukushu followers voted overwhelmingly for Fumu Mbambo's removal.

However, Fumu Mbambo rejected the outcome.

The group then approached the Windhoek High Court to declare his continuous stay in the office as illegal.

"The Hambukushu people remain united, don't react with violence to this court ruling, what we want is peace and unity in the Hambukushu jurisdiction, that is very important."

The High Court ruled that there were no basis in their application on which Mbambo's chieftaincy could be declared null and void.

Disho says the court challenge failed because elections were not part of the Hambukushu succession customs and traditions.

"We must shun these trends of elections in traditional successions, elections are for politics they don't work in traditional matters, another issue, you must know that courts will not solve our disputes because our customs and traditions are not written in their books, that is why you see that cases are always delayed, it is best we turn to our culture if there is any problem."

He called on the subjects to approach the Chief's Council whenever they are aggrieved, which in turn will approach the royal family if necessary to bring the chief to book.

Disho emphasized that a Fumu can only be removed by the royal family if found guilty of serious misconduct or is incapacitated and unable to perform functions.

Fumu Mbambo, Disho says will address the Hambukushu soon to call for unity among the subjects as the chapter closes on the dispute.
