Malawi's former president, Peter Mutharika, has taken an early lead in this week's election, in which he faced off against incumbent Lazarus Chakwera.

Leaders, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders gathered for the Mayoral Stakeholders Fundraising Dinner and Business Awards at Usakos, held under the theme "Partnership, Collaboration, and Actualising the Namibian Dream".

The event raised N$692,000 to support youth employment initiatives in the town.

Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts, and Culture Minister Sanet Steenkamp, who inspected the venue ahead of the opening, was satisfied with the preparedness.

The Health Directorate in the Zambezi Region is on high alert following reports of Mpox and cholera in neighbouring Zambia. 

Its director, Woita Kapumburu, said authorities in the region have already assembled a team of experts to continuously monitor the situation at all entry points.

Walvis Bay Rural constituency councillor Florian Donatus has been charged with fraud and money laundering.

According to a police report, the Independent Patriots for Change councillor was arrested on Monday and will appear in the Swakopmund Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
