Despite enduring an economically challenging year, crowds poured into the central business districts of Botswana's major cities and towns to buy fireworks.

As 2025 draws to a close, ||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze has wished the region's inhabitants a happy New Year and established the tone for 2026. 

Delivering his new year message, Governor Gertze themed 2026 as the year of unity, decisive action and self-reliance. 

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged Namibians to speak openly about the rising number of suicides in the country.

The President's appeal comes as Namibia recorded more than 400 suicide cases during the 2024/2025 financial year.
