President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called for stronger linkages between the Port of Walvis Bay and the Port of Philadelphia in the United States. This follows her recent working visit to Philadelphia, where she held talks with the city council leadership.

Frustrated residents of Walvis Bay have petitioned the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, to dissolve the current municipal council over alleged poor service delivery and mismanagement.

However, the minister said the timing is not right to take such action.

The Mariental Municipality has written off municipal debts amounting to over N$1.2 million owed by senior citizens.

The decision follows a council resolution taken at an ordinary meeting held in September.
