2016 Tara Rally Kicks-off

The 2016 Tara rally started at lunch time yesterday with three stages on the outskirts of the capital yesterday. There weren't many highlights on day one of the 48th edition of the popular event, which started at the Tony Rust Race Track. Leading this year's entry list were former champions with some outsiders also in the field. The event is considered hard on the car and crew, making it difficult to predict beforehand who will pick up a win in the end. One thing that was clear from the drivers and their navigators was that if they can steer clear of mechanical problems anyone of them could be in with a chance to win it this year. The 2016 edition will cover close to 500 km over 20 stages with some of the distance pegged as special stages. The Tara Rally will run in and around Windhoek with the action expected to come to an end tonight when the winners will be rewarded for the grueling event during a prize giving ceremony.
