African Stars crowned Namibia Premier League champions

Katutura-based African Stars were crowned the 2017/2018 Namibia Premier League champions after beating defending champions Tigers 2-1 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday. Stars, who needed full points against Tura Magic and Tigers to win the title, achieved their goal by winning both matches, but it was this match that counted the most. Tigers came to the match with an intention to delay Stars' celebration as they took the lead through Image Isaacks, leading to a 1:0 half time score. Despite not playing to their best ability and playing second fiddle to Tigers for most of the match, Stars eventually hit back with a trademark free-kick by Aubrey Amseb. Tigers' Esco Kavela got a marching orders for a foul play and that changed the direction of the encounter in Stars' favour. With time ticking, Stars scored the winning goal through Aubrey Amseb in what looked like a legitimate off-side by Panduleni Nekundi, which the referee waved play on, resulting in the winning goal. Celebration started at the end of the final whistle as Stars' supporters painted the Sam Nujoma stadium red and white. NPL Chairman Patrick Kauta and the league's sponsor MTC were on hand to present the trophy to Stars.
