Windhoek-Preparations for the first-ever National Youth Games, which are scheduled to take place from the 9th to the 12th of May 2018 in Windhoek has been completed and it is all systems go for the kick-off. The National Youth Games will be held under the theme "Creating opportunities for all Namibians" in sports without fear or favour. With three days left before the Games all are in place, according to Namibia Sport Commission's Head of Marketing and Public Relations Officer Chalo Chainda. “All is set and done we will have our opening on Thursday morning at Independence Stadium, with the games expected to kick off after that. All the regions are expected to arrive Wednesday, we have invited Commonwealth Gold Medallist Jonas Junius and Hilalia Johannes to come and give motivational talk with the Youth “Chainda said. Fourteen regions, eleven sport codes and a one-thousand-eight-hundred athletes are expected to form part of the event. Nine sporting disciplines out of the 57 sport codes affiliated to the Namibia Sports Commission will make up the competition. The Games will be used to select a Namibian Under-20 team that will represent the country at the Zone Six Games in Gaborone, Botswana in December this year. Free busses will be available to ferry people to the different venues.
