Kinda Boxing Promotions Calls Off Tournament

The Kinda Boxing Promotions tournament which was slated for Friday evening in the capital has been postponed because of the ongoing 'war of words" between the stable and the Namibia Boxing and Wrestling Control Board. Speaking to NBC Sport (Wednesday) two days before the event, Promoter Kinda Nangolo said he is left with no other option but to cancel the tournament, since the Namibia Boxing Control Board has not sanctioned the fights as required. “The only blame you can put it on the new Control Board itself. I am disappointed, the fans and even the whole Africa is disappointed”, said Nangolo. Nangolo also rubbished rumors going around that he has a problem in meeting the standards the Control Board expects from him to be given the green light for the tournament. Approached for comment, both the Chairman of the Control Board and his deputy said they had given Nangolo a checklist of things expected from him, which are still outstanding. “This is the only document that is in our file. The boxers' contract are not signed, and the rest of the medicals are not even there, fumed Hiarunguru. What is a checklist anyway? Could they not call me if they could not sanctioned it to tell me it was because of A, B, and C”, concluded Nangola. From what the NBC Sport gathers, the dust seems to be refusing to settle with some promoters and Control Board officials still at loggerheads over a series of issues, which if not solved will bring the sport of boxing to its knees. NBC has learned that a letter requesting the Sport Minister to intervene in the ongoing squabble between the promoters and the Control board was also forwarded to President Hage Geingob.
