Local boxers celebrate Namibia’s independence

Windhoek-Namibian boxers who participated in the Legacy Independence Boxing on Tuesday night in Windhoek all retained their titles against opponents from Malawi, Tanzania and Ghana. Harry Simon Junior added another win to bring his record to five victories after beating Gerson Veata in the 3rd round, in what was supposed to be a four rounder battle. Another prospect, Mike Shonena, dominated his fight against Said Yazidu of Tanzania from the start. However, Shonena’s fight did not last long as he finished the Tanzanian in a second round with a technical knock-out to retain his WBO Africa welterweight title. In the main supporting bout Jeremia Nakathila showed a good performance against Patrick Okine of Ghana. Nakathila who looked more confident than his opponent punched Okine through the ropes and out of the ring in the fourth round. Okine tried to come back into the ring, but the referee saved him from another beating.
