Naimhwaka elected as Athletics Namibia President

Former Secretary General of Athletics Namibia, Erwin Naimhwaka, has been elected as the federation's president at their elective Annual General Meeting held in Windhoek on Saturday. At the marathon meeting, which started early in the morning and went on until late at night, various former members - including president Alina Similo - tabled their reports. Similo reflected on past international stints, such as the All Africa Games and the Rio Olympic Games. Topping the meeting’s resolutions was the need to secure sponsors for the national championships, as the federation does not have a sponsor for next year. Former athletes are dominating the twenty-member committee but it was a close contest between Naimhwaka and former president Alina Similo for the presidency. Similo was however elected as one of the four vice presidents alongside Xenia Pieterse, Satric Bampton and Mathew Johannes. Newcomer Immanuel Hamutenya has been entrusted with the Secretary general position, while Mirinda Subes remains the head of Finance. The new committee will have their first meeting early in January next year.
