Navachab Half Marathon set for Saturday

Windhoek-The 5th edition of the Navachab Half Marathon will take place this coming Saturday at the town of Karibib. The Navachab Half Marathon, which saw its maiden edition in 2013, will once again bring life to the town of Karibib when the country's top long and middle distance runners fight to be crowned champions. The organisers are expecting about 500 participants at this year's race, which will also include a 5km fun walk for casual runners and families. Race Director Berthold Karumendu at Tuesday's launch said he was happy with how far the event has come, but admitted that they can still do more - especially for the athletes who are taking part in the event. Pledging his council's support for the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Karibib Town Council, Lesley Goreseb, said that the town is ready to receive the athletes as well as sponsors to come and make the event a success. Together with the council which pledged 10 thousand Namibia dollars, other companies also joined in to make this year's marathon a success with a combined sponsorship of 105 thousand Namibia Dollars. Goreseb said that his council will be looking at how the nearby towns can make the region a sporting hub by working and supporting each other. There will be a total of eight categories, with winners in the senior men's and women's categories walking away with 7 thousand Namibia Dollars each, while the Masters, Veterans and Junior categories will also provide for exciting competition.
