PPS Knights champions of Coastal Spur T20 Cricket

The 2019 social coastal Spur T20 cricket league came to a close this weekend, with the finals being held on Sunday. PPS Knights were crowned champions, when they beat the Spur team by 70 runs. Saturday saw the last playoff game in the 2019 league, with Spur winning their game against Fuel Pump Repair Warriors for a place in Sunday's final. Fuel Pump Repair Warriors batted first and scored 140 runs for the loss of six wicket in their 20 overs. David Fortuin for Fuel Pump Repair Warriors was the top scorer with 42 runs from 32 balls faced. Other batsmen that made runs were Hadley Oulie with 21 runs and Pierre le Roux with 23 runs. The best bowler for Spur was Luther Mostert with two wickets for 28 runs. In the run chase, the top three batsmen of Spur made the run chase look small, with opening batsman Nian Grobler hitting 56 runs from 43 balls, Renaldo Julie making 25 runs, and Chris Fourie achieving 20 runs, winning the game by five wickets. In the final on Sunday, PPS Knights batted first and scored 191 runs for the loss of five wickets, with Gerhard Lottering scoring 51 runs, Matthew de Gouveia 39 runs, and Herman Karsten 23 runs. On the bowling side, Gideon Kok was the best bowler for the Spur side with two wickets for 21 runs. In Spur's run chase, wickets fell early in the innings, and the top five batsmen were unable to get runs as no one scored more than 20 runs. It was only Esau Heynes in the middle order that scored 21 runs - the highest of the Spur's batsmen. John Eric Thiearauch and Gerhard Lottering both took two wickets a piece for PPS Knights, winning the game in easy fashion by 70 runs. "It was a good league with some great entertaining cricket played all round. I am very happy with all the teams that participated. This is a social league. We hope that this will grow into something bigger, with more teams playing in the league next year" league organiser Nolene Winborn said. After the final, players and teams were also awarded in different categories of the game, namely: top batsman, top bowler, top fielder, top all-rounder, player of the season and best team spirit.
