Windhoek-Thuba Sibanda recently returned to Southern Africa after successfully completing the 18th edition of the FIFA Master in Europe for the past ten months. What she wants to do most, is affect change. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Sibanda has always been passionate about sports and strives to make a difference in the lives of many youngsters. She has spent the past three years in Namibia , working with the Physically Active Youth programme and after school centre. She has also been active with the NFA in terms of the development of the women's national team and assisting with admin structures. She managed to qualify for a FIFA Master’s programme, which is arguably the number one sports management master in Europe. The course organisers identify young potential sports leaders from all over the world and provide them with a comprehensive view of the sports industry. They also help them reintegrate in the industry in their home countries at a more advanced managerial level. The course is sponsored by FIFA and organised by International Centre for Sports Studies based in Switzerland. Sibanda was among 32 people from 26 nations attending the course, which took her on a journey through three countries, namely the UK, Italy and Switzerland. Besides topics such as Sports History, students also covered aspects of financial sport management , sport and brand marketing, security at events and many others. About her experience, Sibanda said “It's a really holistic and a comprehensive course, as it gives you the contextual information that you need from a truly global perspective and I think it impacts you for life because it's not just the learning in the class but it's the learning from each other, that’s so important.” While Sibanda was in Europe, a lot of young Namibians reached out to her on social media, telling her how they are following her story and asking how to get to where she is. Her answers were simple: “I think that you already see how your story touches other young girls’ lives - the girls in the national teams looking at you as a symbol of hope. The kids from this centre from Katutura are saying ‘We were with Miss Thuba- if she can dream this big and we can see her on the walls of FIFA and the walls of UEFA, we know that it’s possible to dream and achieve your dreams if you put work to it.” Sibanda believes that change needs to happen back home and it was thus important for her to come back to Namibia - back to the same system she has been a part of, so that she can develop and grow the already existing structures.
