Sporting greats celebrate Seibeb' s life

The Minister of Sport, Jerry Ekandjo; his deputy Agnes Tjongarero; Sport Director Sivute Katamba and Sport Commission Chairman Joel Mathew were among the mourners, who gathered at Christus Kirche, opposite the Parliament Gardens in Windhoek earlier today to celebrate the life of Costa Seibeb. Seibeb, who was one of Namibia’s young and celebrated cyclists died last Monday in a car crash in the South of the country. Seibeb introduced himself to the world by winning most of the country’s biggest races in 2013. One speaker after another showered praise on the late Seibeb, describing him as a true champion who had a passion for cycling. Sport minister Jerry Ekandjo said Seibeb was a genuine athlete. “Costa Seibeb represented his country with pride. Like a true Champion, he always fights his battle to the finishing line” added Ekandjo. The Minister further commended Seibeb's family for having raised a brave son of the soil, saying it was a challenge in the past for someone from Katutura to embark on a cycling career. Among the many races he won, Seibeb also scooped the 2014 National Road Race Championship and went on to win the 2015 Omaruru Spar Cycle Challenge. Costa Seibeb's Memorial Service was hosted by the Namibia National Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Association in conjunction with Nedbank Namibia.
