Uushona ready to face Jackiewicz

Local boxer Tyson Uushona has promised a top-drawer show when he steps into the ring to take on Rafal Jackiewicz of Poland for the WBF welterweight world title on the third of December. NBC Sport met a determined Tyson Uushona at the gym, preparing for what he considers to be the biggest fight of his career. It will be the second time for the 34-year-old Uushona and his camp to battle it out for the WBF Welterweight world title, which he lost earlier this year to Germany's Deniz Ilbay in a split decision. Although some boxing experts continue to question why Uushona was selected for the title fight after his loss to IIbay in June, the WBF gave IIbay and Uushona an opportunity for a rematch. In a turn of events, IIbay refused to defend the title and therefore WBF stripped him off it and made it vacant again. Uushona who is also known as "The smart boxer" among boxing experts, boasts a record of winning 34 out of 40 fights, losing five, and recording one draw. His opponent, Polish Rafal Jackiewicz won 48, out of 65, losing 15 and drawing twice. According to Uushona, the time is now for his fans to celebrate. “We are more than ready, it will be an early Christmas gift, will make sure to win this title” said Uushona The day will also see Namibia's Lukas Ndafoluma take on Walter Dlamini from South Africa, contesting for the IBO Middleweight African Title. At a press conference hosted this morning, the event promoters urged boxing lovers to rally behind their boxers. “Preparations is on good stage, only few things left from us, so is up to the boxers and fans to do what is expected from them. “ said the Executive Chairman person of Salute Boxing Academy, Kiriat Kamanya The evening will feature twelve bouts and tickets to the event are available in different towns. Meanwhile, at the same occasion, the Namibia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board gave a thumps-up to the Salute Boxing Academy to host the tournament. Vice Chairman of the Board, Phillip Mwandingi, said the Academy submitted the required documents - hence their decision to sanction the tournament. The agreement follows the Board's warning to all boxing promoters in the country to arm themselves with the required documents for their tournaments to be sanctioned. Two tournaments could not take place recently as a result of outstanding standard requirements.
