CHRISTEL KOTZE With a new kit received and the Hage Geingob Stadium being rebranded, everything seems to be in place for Saturday when the Welwitschias begin their season with an encounter against the Valke. The Welwitschias beat the Valke last year by 45-43 in Windhoek and are hoping to repeat their feat from 2017. The growth among local players has been evident, as National head coach Phil Davies had a considerably large bag of players to pick from last year. This will likely also be the case this season as the aim of the team’s participation in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge and Currie Cup remains to grow local talent at home. On NBC’s weekly rugby magazine Absolute Rugby, Welwitschias Head Coach Lyn Jones made his predictions for tomorrow’s game. “We understand that the standard of the SuperSport Rugby is very high for us, but we here to compete and we are here to improve. We are confident that we can put in a really good performance tomorrow” said Jones. With a new look and a promising team lined up for the game tomorrow, coach Jones hopes the ball bounces in their favour. The game is scheduled to kick off at 16H00.
