AN will not allow interference - Naimhwaka

The newly elected president of Athletics Namibia, Erwin Naimhwaka, says his federation is willing to work with all stakeholders, but will not tolerate interference in to their day-to-day running of affairs. Naimhwaka was elected into the hot seat during an elective congress held on Saturday, taking over from Alna Similo . He will lead the federation for the next four year. His main focus, he says, will be development. "To make sure we have functional competition structures starting from the junior to seniors that will provide progress structures thru which we can develop our athletes so they become competitive and not only focus on one area and not having athletes feeding into the senior where we want to become competitive" During an exclusive interview with NBC Sport, Naimhwaka said different sport authorities must play their role effectively and not want to dictate to the mother bodies how to go about their affairs "What I’m saying is that various sports authorities must respect the other bodies. If they are genuine with the sport program they must allow sports codes to dictate what programes they want .They must just hold them accountable in terms of how they run" The former 400m sprinter also explained that some programs are forced on athletes because of specific resources given, while qualification criteria which are not appropriate for a specific code are also enforced on the athletes.
