Kavango East Education Directorate awards tenders for construction of classrooms

The Kavango East Education Directorate has awarded tenders worth more than N$18 million for the construction of classrooms.

Of late the Rundu Circuit has been experiencing a shortage of classrooms leading to overcrowding with some learners being taught in tents. 

A three-classroom block will now be constructed at the Rundu Project School, where learners are currently being taught in tents while a four-classroom block will be built at Siguruguru Primary School.

Education Ministry agrees to reduce learner to teacher ratio

The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture (MoEAC) has agreed to reduce the ratio of learners per teacher for the 2023 academic year.

A letter issued to Nampa on Tuesday signed by MoEAC Executive Director Sanet Steenkamp said this comes after the ministry and the Namibia National Teacher Union (Nantu) in a meeting on Friday mutually resolved to reduce learners per class following mutual concern about the poor performance in the 2022 Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level and Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary Level examinations.
