A regional workshop focussing on access to justice and the importance of legal aid services kicked off in Windhoek.

The Ministry of Justice inaugurated a new magistrate's court in Katima Mulilo. 

Chief Justice Peter Shivute and Minister of Justice Yvonne Dausab jointly inaugurated the facility, worth N$84 million.

Chief Justice Peter Shivute has underlined the critical role of academic work in the justice system and its contribution to the development of jurisprudence.

Shivute delivered a key note address at the launch of several influential works by Dr. Marvin Awarab. 

Both the High Court and Supreme Court are to be hit by the retirement of a number of judges within the next five years.

Chief Justice Peter Shivute describes this as a national concern, as far as how the departing judges will be replaced.

Chief Justice, Peter Shivute says it has been a challenge for the Judicial Service Commission to fill crucial vacancies at the courts owing to a shortage of funds.
