The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has marked its 51st anniversary with a call for collective action to confront insecurity, unconstitutional government changes, climate change, and economic challenges across West Africa.

Africa Day serves as a reminder of the importance of pride, unity, cultural heritage and the spirit of ubuntu that binds Africans together.

The 36th ordinary session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government has decided to maintain the suspensions of Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, and Sudan from the continental body.

The four countries have been under military rule following coups between 2020 and 2022.
