The high unemployment rate among the youth continues to be a serious burden for the |Khomas Region.
The chairperson of the |Khomas Regional Council says the region's unemployment rate stands at 31.5%.
Shaalukeni Moonde says, despite various interventions by the council, unemployment in the region is showing little sign of abating.
Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP, Mike Venaani, has introduced a motion aimed at urgently addressing the high crime rate in Namibia, emphasising the critical need to reduce crime and ensure the safety of the Namibian people.
Venaani's motion underscores the ongoing prevalence of various types of crimes in the country, particularly violent ones such as robbery, gender-based violence, rape, murder, and assault, as well as economic crimes.
He highlighted that there has been an increase in these crimes compared to the previous year.
A lack of parental involvement in their children's education is said to be one of the reasons for the high failure rate last year.
This was expressed by many of the Junior National Council members during their second sitting in Windhoek.
The house was giving their views on the high failure rate of the Grade 11 results of 2022 and what should be done to improve performance. Many said parental involvement is of utmost importance.
