Youths of Erongosig voice their grievances

Youths of Erongosig, a surbub in Usakos, voiced their grievances over what they termed the unjust distribution of land in their neighborhood. They handed over a petition of their plea to the mayor, Irene Simeon-Kurtz.

Born and raised in Usakos, many of these residents say they have spent their lives in their parents' homes, a situation they say is not desirable. Frustration emanated from their voices as they informed Simeon-Kurtz that they diligently applied for land annually, but without success.

Harmful stereotypes fuel mental health - Dr Muinjangue

The Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services says individuals grappling with mental health challenges are at a high risk of contemplating and attempting suicide.

Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue said this during the commemoration of World Mental Day held at Usakos under the theme "Mental health is a universal human right".

Many people globally experience mental illness or have at least one member of the family with a mental health condition.

These include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or untreated psychosis.

PDM councillor Aletta Katiti Sem dies

Popular Democratic Movement councillor at Usakos, Aletta Katiti Sem (45), has died.

Sem served as the deputy mayor of Usakos and was also the acting Karibib Constituency Coordinator and interim chairperson of the PDM Women's League.

PDM president McHenry Venaani described the late Sem as an extraordinary individual whose unwavering commitment and tireless efforts played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Movement.

Navachab Gold Mine to donate N$1,5 million to SMEs in Karibib, Otjimbingwe and Usakos

The Navachab Gold Mine will provide N$1,5 million to SMEs in Karibib, Otjimbingwe and Usakos, as a way to boost sustainable development under its Golden Egg initiative. 

Launched at Karibib, the initiative will accept applications until 5 May thereafter, 30 SMEs will be shortlisted, to pitch their business ideas. 

Mines Minister called to look into dealings of small-scale mines and license holders

Residents of Omatjete Settlement and surrounding villages in the Daures Constituency have joined in the fray to get the Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo, to keenly look into dealings of small-scale mines and license holders.

At the community meeting with the minister, they argued that some mines are not only illegal but are also not assisting locals to benefit from the natural resources mined there.


The residents stressed how Chinese-owned mining companies mistreat locals despite the millions of dollars they are collecting in revenue.

Walvis Bay-Usakos railway gets funding

The government has invested N$2 billion towards the rehabilitation of the rail between Walvis Bay and Usakos.

This was revealed by the Executive Director of the Ministry of Works and Transport, Esther Kaapanda, during her visit to the railway tracks in Erongo Region.

There has been a public outcry over the dilapidated rail infrastructure across the country.

Kaapanda said the upgrading of the railway currently underway is done to reduce derailments as well as upgrade the rail network to SADC standards.
