About 1,3 million people are killed every year on the road, while up to 50 million are injured worldwide in road traffic-related incidences. 

These were some of the statistics shared at the launch of the 7th UN Global Road Safety Week currently underway in Windhoek. 

Road traffic crashes are becoming the world's greatest hazard to the lives of those between the ages of five and 29.

CRIME REPORT | Minor rape incidences

Five incidents of rape involving minors have been reported to the Namibian Police over the weekend.

The youngest victim is a 7-year-old girl who was allegedly raped under coercive circumstances by a 30-year-old man at the Okambogo village in the Onyaana area. The suspect has been arrested and will appear in court on Monday.

A 10-year-old girl allegedly fell victim to rape in the Onesie Constituency's Omalyadhila village; the suspect is known but no arrest has been made, and police investigations continue.
