The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism conducted stakeholder engagements in the Omaheke Region about the possible effects of uranium mining in the Leonardsville and Stampriet areas.

Some traditional leaders in the Aminuis constituency are strongly opposed to the proposed mining of uranium along the Stampriet aquifer.

The leaders are of the opinion that they were not properly consulted in the matter.

A faction of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority under Mutjinde Katjiua is opposing uranium mining exploration in the Stampriet Aquifer Basin.
