Government raises over N$790 million for share in Hyphen Hydrogen Energy

The Green Hydrogen Commissioner says the Namibian government has raised over N$790 million in grant funding for its 24% share in Hyphen Hydrogen Energy and for other green hydrogen projects in the country.

James Mnyupe said this at a media briefing on the recent developments regarding the Green Hydrogen Programme in Windhoek today (Mon).

AR objects to Hyphen requiring a cash payment from government

The Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement has objected to Hyphen requiring a cash payment for the government to take up a 24% stake in Hyphen Hydrogen Energy.

The cash for shares will be in addition to the land, water, and other resources it has already given to Hyphen to develop the Green Hydrogen energy project.

Taking up 24% of the N$186 billion project will amount to N$46 billion.

The government announced during the visit this month by the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands and Denmark that it will take up its 24% equity in Hyphen.

State House dismisses claims made by local daily newspaper

State House has dismissed claims made by a local daily newspaper, which alleged that President Hage Geingob had warned locals against interfering in the Hyphen Hydrogen Energy green hydrogen project.

In a statement, the presidency says Dr. Geingob was urging Namibians not to miss out on the transformative opportunity of green hydrogen.
