The dispute over the 2021 Rehoboth Baster chieftainship election will be heard in the Supreme Court, where appellant Rynault van Wyk is challenging a High Court decision that dismissed his application contesting the election’s validity.

Almost three months after a directive from the Minister of Urban and Rural Development to sort out their chieftaincy dispute, the Dâure Daman Traditional Authority is still far from resolving the matter.

After a decade of uncertainty, the Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Eugene Siwombe Kudumo as Chief of the Ukwangali Traditional Authority.

The ruling marks a turning point for the Ukwangali community, which has been without a chief since the death of Sitentu Mpasi a decade ago.

The spokesperson of the Dâure Daman Traditional Authority, Martin Matsuib, described the elections held for a new chief as invalid and not in accordance with their customary law.
