16 Shishugho family members married

The 16 deceased members of the Shishugho family were buried today at Kayova Village in Kavango East's Ndiyona Constituency.

A large number of mourners from the region and beyond gathered to pay their last respects.

At the memorial service on Friday, speaker after speaker described the incident as among the darkest in the country's history.

The Shishugho family, many of whom were children, tragically lost their lives in a matter of days after consuming a meal two weeks ago.

The 16 members of the Shishugho family who are suspected to have died from food poisoning were buried at Kayova Cemetery in Kayova village in Ndiyona constituency.

Frans Kapofi, Defence and Veterans Affairs Minister, delivered a message of condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community on behalf of the government.

Kapofi said that "it pains me to admit that we, as a government, have not been able to address the issue of statelessness for many of the people in its entirety".
