Otjozondjupa has big plans for regional development

In the Year of Expectations, Otjozondjupa Regional Council has committed itself to redouble efforts to implement its strategic plan and goals by improving the socio-economic wellbeing of its residents.

This was said by the chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Marlene Mbakera, during the first meeting of the council at Otjiwarongo.

High on the council agenda this year is the revival of Kalkfeld Settlement to acquire village council status.

Plans for ||AU-OB Electricity Distribution Company face setbacks

Plans for establishing the ||AU-OB Electricity Distribution Company for the Hardap and ||Kharas regions have faced a setback, as the government has stated that it was not informed about or consulted on the formation of the mentioned company.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, in a letter to Gershon Dausab, Chairperson of the Hardap Regional Council, says his ministry had not been informed nor consulted regarding the intentions to establish the ||AU-OB Electricity Distribution Company.

Cabinet intervention cuts NamPower’s debt collection plan short

National power utility, NamPower’s debt collection plans have been cut short after Cabinet intervention.

NamPower was due to affect Stage 2 of power cuts on Monday and Tuesday this week, between 17H00 and 21H00.

Cabinet, however, directed the power utility not to continue with its debt collection plan, saying that the line ministries would meet and discuss the huge debt owed to Nampower by local authorities and NORED.

Nampower last week defied the Cabinet directive and forged ahead with the power cuts.
