President Mbumba confident of reduction in GBV

President Nangolo Mbumba is confident that the Combating of Domestic Violence Act will lead to a reduction of gender-based violence in Namibia.

In a statement released on the eve of International Women's Day, President Mbumba said that while Namibia has made progress in addressing gender equality, the gaps remain in the fight to end the unabating scourge of gender-based violence.

Domestic violence and drug abuse rife in Outjo

Cases of domestic violence and drug abuse remain the most reported at Outjo.

Outjo Police Station Commander and Chief Inspector Seun Karupa, however, say they are on alert to respond to any distress call.

Chief Inspector Karupa says since last week, seven alcohol-related domestic violence cases have been reported.

The Outjo Police has since the start of the festive season recorded 86 cases of illegal hunting, stock theft, and house break-ins.

Inspector Abram Kaiser, appeares in Keetmanshoop Magistrate Court

A police detective, Inspector Abram Kaiser, appeared in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate Court on a charge of domestic violence.

Detective Inspector Kaiser was arrested following charges of assault by threat for allegedly threatening to shoot his wife.

He was not asked to plead, and the state opposed granting bail to the suspect.

State Prosecutor Marlon Adams told the court that the complainant stated in her affidavit that she fears for her life if the suspect is granted bail.

Magistrate Erick Dandu advised the suspect to lodge a formal bail application.
