Namibian Navy deployment reduces security challenges in Zambezi

The deployment of the Namibian Navy on the Zambezi, Chobe, and Kavango rivers has reduced security challenges such as illegal border crossings, unregulated fishing, poaching, and drug smuggling, among others. 

This was said by the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Frans Kapofi, during the renaming of Naval Base Impalila to Naval Base Lieutenant General John Sinvula Mutwa.

Survey to determine prevalence of NTDs begins

A survey to determine the prevalence of trachoma, scabies, Guinea worm disease, and other selected neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in northern Namibia has begun.

The Kavango East and West and the Zambezi regions carry the highest burden of these diseases.

Namibia has identified eight NTDs, namely schistosomiasis, leprosy, rabies, trachoma, scabies, snakebite, and soil-transmitted helminths.

Gender parity causes upset in Zambezi

The Swapo Party regional office in Zambezi was a scene of unhappiness after some members were left upset over the changed outcome of the district elections held last month.

The unhappiness surfaced after a directive to follow the political party's 50-50 gender representation policy following last month's elections for the positions of district information and mobilisation officer, district coordinator, and treasurer in the Katima Mulilo urban district.

Faith Leader Advocacy for Malaria Elimination discuss ways to intensify fight against malaria

Faith Leader Advocacy for Malaria Elimination (FLAME) met in Otjiwarongo for three days to discuss ways of intensifying the fight against malaria.

Established in 2021 in Namibia, FLAME is a coalition of faith leaders driven to improve and sustain the health and well-being of those affected by malaria.

The coalitions are in areas with the highest malaria transmissions, that is, the Zambezi, Kavango East, Kavango West, Oshikoto, and Ohangwena Regions.
