Efforts to strengthen wildlife protection and environmental monitoring in the Namib-Naukluft National Park have received a boost following a donation of radio communication equipment by mining company Langer Heinrich Uranium.

A joint operation by the police, Namibian Defence Force (NDF), fisheries officials and conservancies has led to the seizure of fish caught illegally in the Zambezi Region valued at over N$92,000. 

The Executive Director of the Pangolin Conservation Foundation, Kelsey Prediger, says that the illegal hunting and trade of pangolins has escalated into a crisis requiring global attention. 

Pangolin poaching and trafficking are on the rise in the country. 

This is contained in the 2023 National Report on Wildlife Protection and Law Enforcement in Namibia. 

Otjozondjupa Regional Council has welcomed the creation of the special wildlife court in the region as a means to speedily handle cases and deter would-be offenders dealing in protected game products.

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism seized about 1,000 illegally cut timber logs last year.
