Heavy rains in the Kavango East and West have left some residents picking up the pieces over the weekend. 

Lambert Haingura, a resident of Hamweyi Village in the Kavango West Region, is one of those affected, as the weekend's rain was accompanied by lightning, which struck and killed seven of his cattle.

Community members living in and around the town of Nkurenkuru, in the Kavango West Region, met at the Nkurenkuru Expo Hall to watch the live screening of the Founding President's funeral. 

The screening was organised by MICT, Kavango West. 

A number of mourners gathered at the Nkurenkuru Expo Hall in Nkurenkuru Kavango West to pay their last respects to the late founding President, Sam Nujoma.

Kavango West Governor, Sirkka Ausiku, has described the late Founding President Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma as a man who was passionate about education, women empowerment, and agriculture, among many other things.

Fumu Erwin Munika Mbambo, the traditional leader of the Hambukushu people, described the late Founding President Dr. Sam Nujoma as a courageous individual who faced challenges directly.

All People's Party (APP) President Ambrosius Kumbwa expressed that, although he never had the chance to meet Dr. Sam Nujoma in person, he has always found inspiration in his story.

Kumbwa first learned about Dr. Nujoma from his father when he was a young boy.

Heavy rains experienced in Rundu last month have caused a gaping hole in the Tutungeni residential area.

Residents are now concerned about the safety risk posed by the hole, but also because a broken sewer pipe is now exposed, and it's now pushing sewer water into the Kavango River.

The Siya Reforestation Pilot Project is in full swing at Siya Village in Kavango West, where a 32-hectare plot is being used to combat land degradation through large-scale tree planting.

The Director of Education in the Kavango East Region, Christine Shilima, says the region's performance in the 2024 national examinations is worrisome. 

Kavango East will now be revisiting strategies aimed at restoring what was once considered one of the top-performing regions in the country. 

After investigating for over a year, police in the Kavango East Region seem to have moved a step further regarding the death of 18-year-old Malaka Sipilikita. 

This came as 17-year-old Malakiia Simuketa appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on a summons, 15 months after Sipilikita's murder.
