Education Ministry announced commencement of Basic Education Act

The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture announced the commencement of the Basic Education Act (Act No. 3 of 2020).

The Act has been in operation since October 5 of this year.
         
This legislation replaces the Education Act 2001 (Act No. 16 of 2001) and aligns well with Namibia’s commitment to meeting the educational aspirations of all its citizens.

The Minister of Education, Anna Nghipondoka, says the new Act does not only address basic education but also adult education and lifelong learning, reflecting the diverse needs of society.

Government raises over N$790 million for share in Hyphen Hydrogen Energy

The Green Hydrogen Commissioner says the Namibian government has raised over N$790 million in grant funding for its 24% share in Hyphen Hydrogen Energy and for other green hydrogen projects in the country.

James Mnyupe said this at a media briefing on the recent developments regarding the Green Hydrogen Programme in Windhoek today (Mon).

Germany supports TVET in Namibia

Germany has pledged its continued support for technical and vocational education and training in Namibia.

It's for this reason that the Charge d'Affaires at the German Embassy says Germany is in the final stages of launching a project to support the TVET sector with a budget of N$260 million.

Dr. Andreas Götze said this at the Namibia Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Conference in Windhoek.

Over 4000 informal settlements' homes electrified

To date, the City of Windhoek has electrified 4,215 households in Windhoek's informal settlements.

This was revealed at the inauguration of the Informal Areas Electrification Project in Windhoek today.

These houses were electrified during the last five years of the previous 5-Year Electrification Plan 2017–2022, which lapsed during the last financial year 2022–2023.

The electrification project was funded by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development and NamPower, with a combined capital investment of around N$45 million.

Keep education flexible and inclusive - Prof. Katjavivi

The Speaker of the National Assembly says there is a need to ensure that the education systems remain open, flexible, accessible, and inclusive in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

Professor Katjavivi, speaking during the second Regional Model Symposium held in Windhoek, noted that open universities are essential for providing accessible, high-quality education and fostering innovation.

He, however, says universities and open learning often face resource constraints.

National Literary Festival kicks off

The National Literary Festival of Namibia kicked off in Windhoek on Friday.

The two-day event aims to empower authors, publishers, and bookstores and enhance their understanding of publication standards and the challenges they may face in their journey.


The National Literary Festival of Namibia also aims to strengthen the bond between stakeholders by creating a platform for collaboration and mutual growth.

It also seeks to foster a culture of reading, writing, and engaging with literature across Namibia.

NAMPA employees hand over petion to Kingsley ǂGuiseb

Employees of the Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA) today handed over their petition to the agency's Board Deputy Chairperson, Kingsley ǂGuiseb, in Windhoek.

ǂGuiseb assured the employees that the board will address all the grievances of the employees stated in the petition within a week's time.

The agency's employees have been demonstrating against what they regard as unfair labour practises at the workplace.

In their petition, the aggrieved employees noted that NAMPA policies are disregarded and not applied across the board, but only when they favour management.

NANTU launches Digital Device Scheme for teachers

The Namibia National Teachers' Union ( NANTU) launched a Digital Device Scheme for teachers in Namibia.

The scheme aims to equip teachers with digital competency skills and integrate ICT into teaching and learning.

At the launch, NANTU, in partnership with GIZ, handed over 200 laptops to teachers in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture.

The union's Secretary General, Loide Shaanika, also disclosed that, as part of the initiative, they successfully trained 800 teachers, with a total training value of N$2 million, last year.
