First-time recipients of the N$600 Conditional Basic Income Grant (BIG) in Karasburg expressed joy at receiving government financial assistance.

The initiative, replacing the food bank, aims to reduce financial hardships for the unemployed and boost economic stability.  

The residents of Omuthiya have called on the government to ensure that it continues to render support to the country's less fortunate.

Those who spoke to nbc News said they are looking forward to a reformed government that speaks to the needs of the people after the recent national elections.

The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare's Conditional Basic Income Grant registration, which began last Monday, is progressing smoothly.

The registration is currently underway in the ||Kharas Region, covering Karasburg and Oranjemund.

The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare is in the process of implementing the Conditional Basic Income Grant, which could extend the current list of former Food Bank beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries receive N$600 per month per household.
