Namibia and Uganda are determined to turn decades of political solidarity into trade and investment, as a Ugandan business delegation is scouting opportunities in key economic sectors.

The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) says expanding market access for Namibian businesses remains a key priority, with the South Africa-Namibia Business Forum having provided a platform for local companies to secure new trade and investment opportunities.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah wants the newly established Namibia-South Africa Business Council to turn the tide on the widening trade imbalance by driving shared investment between the two countries.

Namibian entrepreneurs visited several South African businesses and institutions to exchange knowledge and explore opportunities for collaboration, investment and partnerships, ahead of the South Africa-Namibia Business Forum.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah departed this morning for China, where she will further cement long-standing diplomatic ties between Namibia and China.

She was accorded full state honours as she took off from the Hosea Kutako International Airport. 

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is scheduled to depart for a week-long state visit on Saturday as Namibia seeks to expand investment and economic cooperation, with bilateral trade between the two countries having surpassed N$40 billion.

Namibia and Russia have emphasised the need to strengthen economic and trade ties amid growing bilateral trade and cooperation.

This was revealed during the opening of the Namibia-Russia Business Forum in the capital today. 

The High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to Namibia, Caesar Waitara, said his government is committed to seeing increased trade between his country and Namibia. 

Waitara spoke to National FM's Gordon Joseph at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair.

Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, has said tariffs imposed on them by the United States would only have a positive impact on ties between China and Namibia.

The Chinese ambassador said the increase in tariffs by the US was a typical act of economic bullying by America.

China and Namibia continue to strengthen bilateral trade.

The two nations trade volumes reached N$18.2 billion, an increase of 29% compared to last year.
