The Chief Executive Officer of the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has urged the public and private organisations to have cybersecurity as a strategic initiative.

Emilia Nghikembua shared the sentiments during an exclusive interview with NBC on recent cyber attacks.

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has renewed the contract of its Chief Executive Officer, Emilia Nghikembua. She will serve a second five-year term, starting on the first of January next year.

In 2024, the country's telecommunications licensees collected about N$1.6 million in revenue, contributing 2.5% to the GDP. 

Namibia is set to officially implement electronic signature regulations, with the Communications Regulatory Authority targeting a nationwide launch of electronic signatures by February 2026.

1.6 million SIM cards have been registered across the country as of last month. 

Individuals who have not yet registered their cards are given a 15-day window to do so.
