Kandjimi Natalia Nehova, a 28-year-old woman from Mukekete village in the Kavango West Region, escaped the claws of possible death on Monday, when she pried open the jaws of an attacking crocodile.

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism ((MEFT) has recorded five human fatalities and six injuries due to crocodile attacks in the Kavango West and Kavango East regions between January 2024 and February 2025.

Villagers at Mateke in the Kavango East Region need potable water.

The villagers claim that their lives are at risk due to human-wildlife conflict. 

The villagers say they walk about five kilometres to fetch water and are prone to being attacked by crocodiles.
