Firefighters across the country commemorated International Firefighters Day in Katima Mulilo on Thursday.

Three people died in a car accident on Friday along the Omitara-Otjinene road.

They have been identified as Tjeripo Tjeripo, Vandjeka Kutuouvi; and Vezemboua Hiuii.

The deceased were travelling in a minibus that had 15 occupants and was en route from Windhoek to Otjinene.

A vehicle caught fire just a few meters from the Otjiwarongo roadblock earlier today.

According to information gathered by the NBC crew en route to a sports assignment, the vehicle burst into flames while in motion. The driver managed to escape the rapidly spreading fire and was not injured.

The Okahandja Municipality was presented with a new fire station during a ceremony held at the facility, signifying advancement in enhancing the emergency response capabilities within the town.

A lack of well-equipped ambulances in the Kavango East Region compromises timely medical assistance to patients in remote areas. 

This was shared by the Chief Medical Officer at the Rundu Intermediate Hospital, Dr. Medson Chibwe, with members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health.

The Namibian Police Force is advising the public to exercise extreme caution when making fires at home or handling flammable products. 

This warning comes in response to a rise in fire incidents reported in recent months. 

The Zambezi Health Directorate has received four ambulances, a critical upgrade to emergency services where communities have long struggled with limited medical transport options.

For over a decade, the hospital relied on a single ageing ambulance to serve a region with widespread medical needs.
