Phosphate mining may go ahead following an approved environmental clearance, but a researcher says strong monitoring will be critical to protecting Namibia's marine environment.

The Namibian Ports Authority (NamPort) will provide N$3.7 million to the University of Namibia (UNAM) to conduct research on the Walvis Bay lagoon.
