Namibia has recorded a decline in firearm surrenders during September's African Amnesty Month.

Only 15 firearms have been handed over.

Of the 15 firearms surrendered, four are hand grenades, and 298 rounds of ammunition, down from 86 firearms, 3,171 rounds and 22 magazines handed over in 2025.

The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) Zambezi Region Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, has raised concerns about the high number of commercially licensed firearms being returned to police stations for safekeeping shortly after their approval.
