The Windhoek High Court on Tuesday heard that there was no urgency to elect a new Ovaherero “Paramount Chief” after the death of the late Ombara Otjitambi Vekuii Rukoro in 2021, but there was urgency to establish a transitional committee to manage the process.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has stepped in to help resolve the Gciriku traditional leadership succession dispute.

The Gciriku tribe has been without a chief since 2019. 

The chieftainship of the tribe is inherited through the maternal line.
