Namibia's higher education sector has gained continental recognition after the University of Namibia (UNAM) secured 31st place in the first-ever Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings in Sub-Saharan Africa.

U.S. legislation, the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), meant to provide sub-Saharan countries duty-free access to U.S. markets, has lapsed.

This is despite months of negotiations for a possible extension between various African countries and the Trump administration.

The United Nations' Resident Coordinator Hopolang Phororo has commended Namibia for integrating early childhood development, foundational learning, and teacher training into its structures in an effort to achieve quality education for all.
