Namibia and South Africa have signed six Memoranda of Understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

The Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) ensures the psychosocial well-being of its inmates irrespective of the crime committed.

NCS Assistant Commissioner Fiina Engelbrecht says the institution's facilities have different programmes in place to assist all inmates.

Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security Lucia Iipumbu has highlighted progress by the ministry in strengthening national security, enhancing policing capacity, and improving correctional services across the country. 

Namibia Correctional Services Commissioner General Raphael Hamunyela has emphasised that the institution is hard at work to bridge the skills gap between new intakes in key positions and top officials.

The aim is to equip officials with skills to improve administration and rehabilitation programmes.

The Windhoek Correctional Facility has initiated another attempt to separate multiple Fishrot accused, who are currently housed together in the same unit.
 
The move comes weeks after the High Court found that the facility acted incorrectly by relocating them unilaterally.
 

Eighteen inmates at the Windhoek Correctional Facility have taken the Commissioner-General of the Namibian Correctional Service to court, saying decisions taken by new officials at the facility have made it difficult for them to continue with their tertiary studies.
