Phosphate mining may go ahead following an approved environmental clearance, but a researcher says strong monitoring will be critical to protecting Namibia's marine environment.

Scientists have warned that Namibia's marine ecosystems are changing, and they have gathered in Henties Bay to find out whether these changes are natural fluctuations or signs of a deeper transition.

Efforts to strengthen wildlife protection and environmental monitoring in the Namib-Naukluft National Park have received a boost following a donation of radio communication equipment by mining company Langer Heinrich Uranium.
