Some Swapo delegates in the Hardap Region have expressed mixed views over the internal campaign for those vying for top positions ahead of the party's Congress.

Branch Secretary Absalom Shihepo says it is time to bring the pioneers closer to the leadership through the established Pioneer Development Program, which will engage the youth at least every six months.

Shihepo says it is vital that pioneers are groomed from a tender age to understand what leadership is all about and make positive changes in their communities.

Swapo Party candidates vying for the three top positions took their internal campaigns to Omuthiya in the Oshikoto Region to engage delegates to the upcoming congress next month.

The candidates are canvassing for support, explaining to the delegates why they should be voted for.

In his welcoming remarks, Oshikoto Regional Swapo Coordinator, who is also contesting for the Secretary-General position, Armas Amukwiyu, called on the candidates competing for the top positions, as well as for the Central Committee, to strictly adhere to the rules of engagement.

The Swapo Party's Special Central Committee held on Friday decided not to allow Jerry Ekandjo to join the race for the party's Vice President.

President Hage Geingob opened the meeting at the Parliament Gardens and called on the members to, among others, discuss the exclusion of Jerry Ekandjo from the Vice Presidential race.

President Geingob categorically stated in his opening remarks that there is no disunity in Swapo and that the party is busy with a unique democratic exercise of electing its top office bearers.

Contesting candidates for Swapo top positions urged to engage in debates

The Swapo Party Regional Coordinator for Kavango West, David Hamutenya, wants those vying for the top positions to engage in debates during the closed-door meetings, which are part of the intra-party campaigns.

Speaking at the opening of a meeting between candidates and delegates, Hamutenya warned against tribalism and exclusivity.

Contesting candidates for the top positions in the Swapo Party continued their campaign at Nkurenkuru on Saturday.

Jerry Ekandjo's fate to be decided this coming Friday

Lawyers representing Jerry Ekandjo welcomed a decision to hold a Central Committee meeting to decide whether or not the veteran politician should be allowed to contest the Vice Presidential position at its elective congress next month.

This comes after Swapo Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa called for a Special Central Committee this coming Friday.

Richard Metcalfe of Metcalfe Beukes Attorneys told nbc News that Ekandjo, as a disciplined politician, just wants the party to follow the Constitution and, as such, welcomes efforts to resolve the issue amicably.

Omaheke Swapo Party Congress delegates in their numbers engage top three positions candidates

Delegates to the Swapo Party Congress in the Omaheke Region turned up in numbers to listen to and ask questions to candidates who are vying for the top three positions.

The party's Regional Information and Mobilisation Officer, Liberius Kalili, says the engagement with delegates, which was not open to the media, shows that the party remains on course to maintain peace and unity.

Speaking to the nbc News team at Gobabis, Kalili says candidates and delegates had a lengthy marathon discussion.
