Women in business urged to establish of cooperatives to enhance enterprises

Women in business have been urged to establish cooperatives that would enhance their enterprises through business-to-business networking.

This call was made by Doreen Sioka, the Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare, during a meeting with businesswomen in Rosh Pinah.

Sioka emphasised that informal businesses play a significant role in contributing to the country's developmental objectives. By forming cooperatives and engaging in business networking, women can further enhance the impact and success of their ventures.

One Step at a Time initiative assist 80 women with IUD Birth Control

80 women from the Havana informal settlement received contraceptive devices to prevent pregnancies.

The intrauterine device used is a non-permanent method, which means it can be reversed if a woman wants to have children again.

The initiative is the brainchild of a medical doctor, Esperance Luvindao.

Dr. Luvindao believes in bringing healthcare services to those who have limited access; hence, her project primarily focuses on informal settlements.

Two women die after consuming a concoction

Two women died after consuming a concoction that would allegedly rid them of evil spirits and remove bad luck.

The Namibian police report that 27-year-old Shiremo Josefine Namutenya and 30-year-old Linyando Shikonga died after drinking traditional medicine in the Ndiyona Constituency, in the Kavango East Region.

The two deceased developed stomach aches and collapsed; one died at home and the other upon arrival at the local clinic.

Both complained of a runny stomach and vomiting.

Elombe Village women receive jam-making training

A group of women from Elombe Village received a one-day jam-making training at Ongwediva offered by officials from the Urban and Rural Development Ministry.

The one-day jam-making process focused on value addition, where rural people are empowered to produce food from their local produce that is easily accessible to them.

This time around, they gathered under the tree to receive training on how to make jam from marula, a plentiful seasonal fruit accessible at almost every rural household in the north.

Young women complete tailoring training in Kavango East Region

About 16 young women from the Kavango East Region completed their training in tailoring through the Dreams program.

The graduates also received toolkits comprising of sewing machines, materials, and ironing boards to start their own businesses.

The program which was introduced in the region in 2021, is funded by the U.S President's Emergency Plan for Aids to support adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 10 and 24 as well as their parents and partners to prevent new HIV infections. 

Agribank grants loans to youth & women organizations in Kavango regions

37 youth and 67 women's organizations have received loans of more than N$12 million from Agribank in the Kavango West and East regions.

Agribank revealed this during the inauguration of its offices in Rundu.

The Agribank offices at Rundu serve 316 active clients with 494 loan facilities totaling more than N$154,7 million.

SA High Commission celebrates women

The South African High Commission observed a night of song and dance to pay homage to women and their role in society, particularly during the liberation struggle from apartheid rule.

The festivities, which took place in Windhoek, included traditional meals in both Namibia and South Africa, to buttress unity and deepen interaction between the people of both countries.
