Learners population at Siguru-guru Primary School increases

The Siguru-guru Primary School's learner population has grown exponentially, despite teaching there being conducted in tents.

Construction of classrooms was delayed after initially being set to commence in December last year.

The school, situated at Rundu's Tumweneni Informal Settlement, was started by community members five years ago.

Acting Head of Department Marcellus Haivera says more than 1,000 learners have been enrolled.

Haivera says there are many learners still looking for school placement.

Government reiterates its commitment to respect and protect the rights of all people

The government has reiterated its commitment to respect and protect the rights of all people and their dignity.

The Prime Minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila reaffirmed this at the commemoration of the International Human Rights Day and Namibia Women's Day at Rundu.

The Primier said in order to strengthen the effort to end human rights violations, the government has adopted laws and policies.  

Premier calls on Otjozondjupa leadership to implement Performance Management System

Prime Minister Saara Kuugogelwa-Amadhila is calling on the leadership of the Otjozondjupa Region to up their game in terms of performance and implement the Performance Management System in their respective offices.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by the top leadership of the region, such as Governor James Uerikua and Regional Chairperson Marlayn Mbakera, visited the Kalkfeld settlement, where only about 100 of its 4000 inhabitants are employed.

Broken, outdated equipment at Etunda Irrigation Scheme hampers operations

Outdated equipment, facilities, and tractors that have been broken for about six years now are said to be hampering operations at the Etunda Green Scheme Irrigation Project in the Omusati Region. 

Etunda has 450 hectares of commercial farming units. Currently, they have planted 24 hectares of lucerne, which is now the project's main source of income.

This has seen farmers queuing up as early as four o'clock in the morning in search of lucerne for their livestock.

There are also four hectares of vegetables under irrigation.

Government to find alternatives to address road infrastructure in rural areas

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila visited Ompundja and Uuvudhiya Constituencies to familiarise herself with the developments in the area.

She also visited a number of facilities there.

One of the projects she visited was constructed through the Disaster Risk Management Fund three years ago to help the region deal with emergency situations.

Prime Minister calls on private sector to invest in government green schemes

Speaking at an engagement with the Kavango East regional leadership, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila called on the private sector to invest in the government's green schemes, which she said have the potential to bring about national food security.

There are seven government green schemes in the Kavango East and West Regions and the government's plans to lease them to private investors are gaining momentum.

Premier holds closed door meeting with Zambezi Regional Council representatives

Prime Minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, held a closed-door meeting with representatives of the Zambezi Regional Council, the Katima Mulilo Town Council and the Bukalo Village Council at Katima Mulilo on Friday.

Before the closed-door meeting, Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu briefed the Premier about the security situation in the region and the challenges facing the operations of the green schemes in the region.

Prime Minister urges state institutions improve in service delivery

State institutions nationwide are urged to enhance efficient service delivery to the people by setting deadlines on planned strategies and delivering on time.

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila made this call during her address at the State Party Assessment Tool Pilot Program Workshop.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says that the public service is a state institution whose main objective is to plan, organise, and ensure control of the resources needed for effective public service delivery to the citizens.
