AU membership in G20 a good beginning - President Geingob

President Hage Geingob says the African Union's permanent membership in the G20 is a good beginning.

Dr. Geingob, in an interview with France 24's 'Across Africa' programme in Paris, France, said this speaks to inclusivity.

The President also responded to the question of governance in light of the recent coups, which he said reversed the gains made towards democratic rule.

President Geingob restates commitment to France

President Dr. Hage Geingob has restated his commitment to continue working with France to foster and strengthen their relations.

The Head of state said this in a congratulatory message to France's President Emmanuel Macron on the anniversary of Bastille Day.

President Geingob wished for the French citizens to treasure the legacy of the Revolution as a beacon to overcome challenges together.

The Head of state further reminisced on the pivotal role the French Government played in the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 435.

UNESCO's Executive Board meets in France

UNESCO's Executive Board is meeting at its headquarters in Paris, the capital of France.

During the presentation of its national statement at the board meeting, Namibia welcomed a proposal in UNESCO's Draft Programme and Budget for 2024–2025 that aims to address the physical and mental health of young people.

Namibia is an Executive Board member and is represented by its Ambassador to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Albertus Aochamub. 

Presenting Namibia's national statement, Aochamub welcomed the Draft Programme and Budget for 2024–2025.

Namibia, Botswana and South Africa awarded UNESCO Peace Award for aquifer cooperation

Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa were awarded the UNESCO Peace Award for cooperation in transboundary groundwater governance and management in Paris, France.

Namibia and other African countries attended the two-day UN-Groundwater Summit, which was themed "Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible." The gathering looked at various aspects, such as how African countries can cooperate in groundwater management and utilization.

Namibia remains open for business- President Geingob

President Hage Geingob has reiterated that Namibia remains open for business, though proposals must first be discussed with relevant ministries and agencies before being addressed to State House.

Dr Geingob and Cabinet ministers recently met with a visiting French delegation, led by the Vice President of the Hauts-de-France Region, François Decoster.

The French interest is mainly in the areas of logistics, fish processing, agriculture and energy.

The visiting delegation from Haut-de-France is interested in partnering with Namibians.
