Health Ministry plants trees in celebration of CDC and Prevention's 20th Anniversary

The Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe, says the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Namibia has strengthened the country's healthcare system and level of service delivery.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services planted three trees to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The anniversary cements the strong bond between CDC Namibia and the ministry and has seen the strengthening of laboratory capacity, among others, said Nangombe.

The United States of America has listed Namibia among the six countries to share strategies on epidemic control measures with other countries.

This follows the success of the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Program, which further helped Namibia to control the spread of HIV/AIDS and other epidemics.

The US Embassy's Charge d'Affaires, Jessica Long, revealed this following a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob at State House.

US Embassy plants 5 000 trees at new US Compound building in Windhoek

The US government held a tree-planting ceremony at the new embassy compound in Windhoek.

Approximately 5,000 plants are being reintroduced, among them 300 trees. 33 plants are of Namibian species.

A tree planting ceremony is common following the construction of infrastructure, celebrating the milestone and reintroducing vegetation to the environment.

The embassy says it chose native plant species that don't rely on an irrigation system as a means to conserve water.
