No More VAT on Sanitary Products

No value-added tax will be charged on sanitary pad products as of early next year.

The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises announced in a statement that the No Value Added Tax Amendment Act, 2022, will come into effect on January 1, 2023.

It says the amendments to the Act include the re-classification of the supply of sanitary pads as a zero-rated supply, meaning that no VAT is to be charged on sanitary pad products as of that date.

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, has tabled amendments to three laws in the financial sector in the National Assembly.

These are the Value Added Tax, Stamp Duties, and the Income Tax.

In her motivation, Hinda-Mbuende explained that the proposed changes to the Value Added Tax deal with amendments to the definition and the assessment of what taxable activities are.
